 2007 saw the fourth and most ambitious production yet from SHREWSBURY HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS
We presented A week of performances, talks and music recalling a turbulent period in Shrewsbury’s history - when the town was successively a Royalist and a Parliamentarian stronghold, and when the hero of the Parliamentarian assault changed sides and was executed as a traitor outside The Castle.
- King Charles I stayed in Council House Court.
- Prince Rupert garrisoned the town.
- John Benbow, hero & traitor, lies in Old St Chad’s Churchyard.

Specially commissioned from playwright Peter Cann and involving over 100 local actors and musicians.
Directed by Andrew Bannerman and produced by Maggie Love.
Music composed and directed by Mary Keith and performed by The Mere Singers of Precious Bane fame!
THE SIEGE OF SHREWSBURY
A spectacular muster of the Sealed Knot Civil War Re-enactment Society
Performed on 7 & 8 July 2007
This included
- Living History camp in The Quarry on both days
- Citizens’ Drill in Square
- Grand March through Town of Royalist Army
- Royal Salute – in the Square
- Skirmishes in the streets
- Pitched Battle in the Quarry Park
- 17th century Music and Dance and Children’s Activities around the town on both days.
